Joshua A. Bullen Appointed First Designer in Residence at A-Cold-Wall as Brand Prepares for Paris Debut

LONDON — Four Marketing, the Frasers-backed distribution and retail agency that acquired A-Cold-Wall in 2024, announced a significant leadership development on Wednesday by appointing Joshua A. Bullen as the contemporary streetwear label’s inaugural designer in residence. Under this newly established creative framework, Bullen is set to debut his first collection for the brand in Paris for the fall 2027 season, marking a fresh chapter for the label originally founded by Samuel Ross.

The newly minted residency has been deliberately structured as a long-term platform rather than a permanent replacement for the brand’s core identity or its in-house studio team. Rather than completely dismantling what came before, the residency will see Bullen interpret the label’s established codes—originally implemented by founder Samuel Ross—within a renewed and contemporary aesthetic framework. This approach aims to bridge the foundational ethos of the brand with a forward-looking design vision, ensuring continuity while introducing fresh creative perspectives.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Bullen shared insight into what the brand means to him and his vision for its upcoming evolution.

“It is a privilege to be working with A-Cold-Wall and sharing my experiences with those of the brand. A-Cold-Wall represents to me: community, culture, lifestyle, but most importantly good design. Bringing together friends and enjoying creativity to take ACW into its next chapter,” Bullen said upon his appointment.

Four Marketing executives emphasized that Bullen brings an extensive and robust background of senior design experience cultivated across several major fashion houses, making him uniquely qualified to steer the label into its next phase. His impressive resume includes spending more than a decade as the head of design at Stone Island, a brand renowned for its technical fabric innovation and utilitarian aesthetic. Following his tenure at Stone Island, Bullen served as the design director of menswear at Givenchy, where he helped shape the luxury house’s contemporary masculine tailoring and streetwear-inflected offerings.

A 2011 menswear graduate of Central Saint Martins, Bullen has steadily built a reputation as a versatile and accomplished force in modern design. In his most recent corporate role as design and studio director at Kenzo—a position he held until 2025—he oversaw a remarkably broad portfolio encompassing menswear and womenswear ready-to-wear, shoes, leather goods, and children’s wear ranges. Following his departure from Kenzo, he returned to the prestigious King’s Cross-based fashion school, contributing to the next generation of creative talent as a guest tutor.

Ben Banks, chief executive officer of Four Marketing Group, hailed Bullen’s appointment as a natural partnership, noting that the collaboration is underpinned by a professional relationship built over many years of industry interaction.

“A meaningful and long-term design and cultural philosophy is built on trust and patience, and that trust already exists between us, so we start from a strong foundation,” Banks said. He further reflected on the broader climate of the industry, noting that while the fashion sector is currently facing a difficult and unpredictable moment, structural change ultimately offers a valuable opportunity to learn from the past and shape a resilient new vision for the future.

Founded in 1997, Four Marketing has established a formidable reputation in the global fashion landscape, successfully building and scaling businesses for prominent international brands including Stone Island and C.P. Company. Operating across a diverse range of sectors—including physical retail, e-commerce, wholesale distribution, and licensing—the group expanded its portfolio when it acquired A-Cold-Wall from fashion wholesaler Tomorrow in 2024.

The appointment of a designer in residence represents a strategic move for the Frasers-backed agency as it seeks to revitalize and reposition the label within the competitive luxury streetwear market. The brand’s original founder, Samuel Ross, is no longer involved with the label, having moved on to other high-profile creative ventures. Following his departure from the eponymous label he launched in 2015, Ross established his multidisciplinary studio SR_A and has since collaborated on high-profile, multiyear partnerships with major commercial entities such as Zara and Whoop, cementing his status as an influential industrial designer and creative director on a global scale.

As Bullen prepares his inaugural collection for the fall 2027 season in Paris, industry watchers will be closely observing how the seasoned designer translates his decades of technical outerwear and luxury ready-to-wear experience into the distinctive, sociological design language that first put A-Cold-Wall on the international map.
