CNN Reclaims No. 2 Spot in Total Day as Cable News Networks See Broad Ratings Growth for the Week of October 12, 2026

The latest basic cable network ranker and cable news report covering the week of October 12, 2026, reveals a period of notable upward momentum across the three major cable news networks. According to Nielsen big data and panel measurements, Fox News, MS NOW, and CNN all experienced positive growth in both total viewers and the advertiser-coveted Adults 25-54 demographic during primetime and total day viewing.

The most significant competitive shift occurred outside the top spot, where CNN managed to surpass MS NOW to reclaim the No. 2 position during total day viewing. Furthermore, CNN distinguished itself as the sole cable news network to achieve double-digit percentage gains within the key 25-54 demographic across both measured dayparts. On the programming front, the battle for dominance in the key demographic remained fierce, with Fox News’ flagship roundtable program The Five successfully recapturing its first-place position from MS NOW’s The Rachel Maddow Show.
