Paris-based 3D studio Studio River has made its official entry into the fiercely competitive arena of computer-generated luxury watch advertising with a compelling new spec spot created for Swiss luxury watchmaker Hublot. Entitled R.EVISITED, the project delivers a standout black-and-white treatment that balances stark minimalism with a wonderfully nuanced aesthetic.
The piece joins a growing wave of high-end, fictional motion design campaigns where digital artists and boutique studios leverage cutting-edge rendering technologies to test their creative mettle against traditional commercial standards. These spec spots, collectively recognized across the digital design community as part of the ongoing "CG watch wars," allow artists to explore complex visual narratives and push the boundaries of CGI without the constraints of traditional client briefs.

Keyvan Nourian, co-founder at Studio River, explained the motivations behind the ambitious production and what the team hoped to achieve through the fictional narrative.
"This film is a creative exploration of the visual language of luxury watch advertising," Nourian said while discussing the project. "Through a fictional campaign, we set out to develop a distinctive aesthetic while deepening our understanding of the codes and craftsmanship behind this genre."

The conceptual narrative of R.EVISITED centers on stark contrasts and natural elements. Set deep beneath the frozen, unyielding surface of the Arctic Ocean, a precision-engineered Hublot timepiece lies trapped within a thick prison of ancient ice. The sub-zero environment is both beautiful and desolate, capturing a profound sense of isolation. Guarding this hidden treasure is a mysterious, otherworldly creature—a digital jellyfish adorned with translucent, ethereal tentacles that circle the watch endlessly. The motion of the creature mimics the fluid, perpetual passage of time itself, acting as an otherworldly sentinel over human craftsmanship.
Rendered entirely in a minimalist black-and-white color palette, each frame deliberately magnifies a sense of profound stillness. The high-contrast visuals strip away distractions, focusing the viewer’s attention squarely on the interplay between organic fluidity and cold, mechanical precision. This atmospheric tension builds throughout the piece until, at last, the underwater ice fractures under an unseen pressure. The watch breaks free from its frozen tomb, ascends gracefully through the dark, murky waters, and emerges majestically at the surface into the open air.

Behind this poetic imagery lies a deeper conceptual foundation. At its core, the film functions as a visual meditation on the nature of time. The creators sought to illustrate that even in complete stillness, time continues to shape its own story. It never truly stops or surrenders to the elements, always finding an inevitable way forward.
Behind the Visuals and Production Craft
Creating a high-end luxury watch commercial in computer graphics requires an extraordinary level of technical precision and artistic restraint. Unlike traditional product visualizations that rely on bright, highly saturated color grading and aggressive camera movements to showcase metallic finishes, Studio River chose a restrained approach. The black-and-white treatment forces the viewer to appreciate the geometry, textures, and meticulous mechanical details of the watch entirely through light, shadow, and form.

The production brought together a tight-knit team of specialized digital artists to tackle the rigorous technical challenges of fluid simulation, lighting, and compositing. The complex underwater environments, the fracturing ice, and the organic, flowing movements of the translucent jellyfish were brought to life using advanced simulation tools.
Paul Maurin spearheaded the intricate Houdini simulation work, capturing the chaotic yet graceful dynamics of water, bubbles, and breaking ice. Maurin also collaborated with Maxime Isoard on 3D animation, modeling, and lighting duties, ensuring that every facet of the watch’s internal gear mechanism and exterior casing caught the monochromatic light with absolute realism.

Post-production duties were shared across the studio. Keyvan Nourian, Paul Maurin, and Maxime Isoard teamed up for the compositing process, weaving together the disparate elements of fluid dynamics, hyper-realistic product models, and atmospheric lighting into a cohesive cinematic vision. Nourian also took on the responsibilities of editing, title design, and sound design, shaping the pacing and auditory landscape to complement the stark visual tone of the film.
The resulting sound design works in tandem with the minimalist imagery, utilizing subtle audio cues to heighten the tension of the underwater setting, the delicate movement of the jellyfish tentacles, and the dramatic fracture of the ice. The careful synchronization of audio and motion reinforces the meditative quality of the narrative, grounding the fantastical elements in a palpable sensory experience.

By stepping into the CG watch wars with R.EVISITED, Studio River has demonstrated its capacity to blend technical mastery with high-concept artistic storytelling. The spec spot not only showcases the studio’s proficiency in advanced 3D pipelines like Houdini and complex rendering workflows, but it also establishes a distinctive voice in the realm of luxury product visualization. As boutique studios continue to use speculative projects to redefine the boundaries of commercial art, works like R.EVISITED highlight how digital craftsmanship can elevate product advertising into pure visual poetry.
