When telecommunications giant Verizon sought a striking, imaginative welcome film for the tech hub at its prominent London headquarters, it turned to the creative forces at production studio FutureDeluxe. Inspired by Charles and Ray Eames’ seminal 1977 classic short film Powers of Ten, director Marcus Chaloner and the studio’s talented CG motion crew rose to the challenge, crafting an intricate, visually arresting journey through scale, infrastructure, and modern connectivity.

The resulting minute-long sequence bridges the microscopic and the monumental, translating the abstract mechanics of global telecommunications networks into a breathtaking visual language. Verizon entrusted the team to interpret how they build their digital and physical networks as a series of abstract concepts anchored in scale. In response, Chaloner and his crew explored how contemporary networks demonstrate biomimicry, drawing direct parallels between biological systems and digital architecture from the micro scale all the way up to the kiloscale.

The ambitious project takes viewers on a mesmerizing voyage. The sequence begins deep within the human body, moves fluidly past futuristic, stylized interpretations of organic infrastructure, and ultimately vaults outward into a vast, sprawling landscape characterized by towering computational monoliths and rivers of flowing data. Achieving this seamless transition required immense technical prowess, particularly given the production’s high-end delivery specifications: a pristine 4K resolution running at a smooth 60 frames per second. Rendering complex refractive materials at this fidelity presented a significant hurdle for the CG artists involved, demanding meticulous technical execution to bring the concept to life without compromising visual clarity or fluidity.

The final piece stands as a masterclass in modern computer graphics, utilizing translucent forms, glowing orange and white light filaments, and intricate geometric structures to evoke the feeling of a sophisticated London tech hub in motion. From macro shots of delicate, lace-like circular patterns contained within spherical forms to sweeping aerial views of grid-like city structures partially obscured by clouds, every frame reflects the high aesthetic standards associated with FutureDeluxe’s ongoing body of work.

Bringing this ambitious vision to life required a tightly coordinated team of creative professionals. Under the direction of Marcus Chaloner, executive producer Svet Lapcheva, and senior producer Natalie Greenwood, the production relied on the technical and artistic talents of lead CG artist Husni Wahab alongside a dedicated roster of 3D artists, including Joey Phinn, Vincentiu Solomon, Dobromir Dyankov, Ivan Outeiral, and Ziyad Abahussin. The rich visual journey was further amplified by comprehensive sound design from the audio specialists at Echoic Audio, completing the immersive sensory experience designed to greet visitors at Verizon’s London hub.
