Beyond the Latest Trends: Benjamin Moore Names Webster Green Its 2027 Color of the Year

While green has firmly established itself as a familiar fixture in the annual color forecasting cycle over recent years, paint manufacturing giant Benjamin Moore is choosing to look beyond fleeting trends for its latest selection. Webster Green (HC-130) has been officially named the brand’s Color of the Year for 2027, drawing on the enduring, timeless appeal of a classic mid-tone green. The resulting shade offers a versatile aesthetic that feels equally at home within deeply historic interiors as it does in sharp, contemporary spaces.

The paint brand’s deliberate choice reflects a much broader, growing interest among designers and homeowners alike in colors that possess true staying power. Webster Green features a muted, slightly gray quality that successfully softens its inherent richness without ever diminishing its visual presence. It possesses a substantial character that is heavy enough to completely envelop an entire room, yet it remains remarkably restrained. Because of this balanced nature, it works harmoniously alongside intricate architectural details, raw natural materials, and a wide array of complementary colors.

For the design community and consumers tracking color trends, the selection marks a deliberate pivot away from hyper-saturated or ultra-trendy shades toward hues rooted in longevity. Andrea Magno, the vice president of brand, color, and integrated marketing at Benjamin Moore, emphasizes that the decision was driven by an extensive look at how color evolves over time.

"For 2027, our focus centered on the green color family," says Andrea Magno. "When we looked across the past, present, and future of color trends, variations on green consistently demonstrated remarkable staying power."

Magno further describes Webster Green as a color that strikes a rare balance between immediate familiarity and an expansive sense of possibility. Its composed nature feels simultaneously rooted in design history and forward-looking, while actively enhancing spaces that aim to feel distinctive, collected, and continually new.

This adaptability is vividly demonstrated across the various environmental settings curated by Benjamin Moore to showcase the new shade. In one traditional setting, Webster Green entirely envelops a classic library, seamlessly unifying its floor-to-ceiling built-in shelving, paneled walls, and the substantial architecture of a fireplace surround. Elsewhere, the shade is utilized to bring a distinctly contemporary sensibility to a bright bedroom, where it is paired against crisp white trim and a contrasting pale blue ceiling. The color’s underlying versatility allows it to transition comfortably and fluidly between traditional and modern interiors without missing a beat.

Webster Green also serves as the anchor for Benjamin Moore’s broader Color Trends 2027 palette, a tightly curated collection of eight distinct hues selected carefully from the company’s vast library of more than 3,500 colors. The seven accompanying shades expand the palette’s range and application potential. They include White Down, a soft and gentle off-white; Nelson Blue, a pale, watery blue; and Shakespeare Tan, a warm, golden neutral. Wild Aster introduces a muted pink infused with subtle gray undertones, while Antique Copper brings a much warmer, reddish-brown note to the mix.

The deeper end of the 2027 palette is rounded out by Durango, a dark neutral characterized by strong olive undertones, and Townsend Harbor Brown, a rich burgundy that leans heavily toward brown. Together, this cohesive family of colors offers vast opportunities for both subtle, tonal combinations and more expressive, dramatic contrasts within residential and commercial projects alike.

To further articulate the mood and background of the release, Benjamin Moore commissioned illustrator Tanu Vasu to produce a series of hand-drawn illustrations. These custom artworks explore the deep-seated inspirations behind the palette, reinforcing its vital connection to historical design precedents and personal, expressive living.

By naming Webster Green as its Color of the Year for 2027, Benjamin Moore makes a compelling case that a color does not have to be entirely new to feel profoundly relevant in contemporary design culture.
