FutureDeluxe Zooms Way Out for Verizon London Hub Film

LONDON — Blending mid-century design inspiration with cutting-edge computer graphics, director Marcus Chaloner and the CG motion design crew at FutureDeluxe have crafted an intricate welcome film for a high-tech hub at Verizon’s London headquarters.

Unveiled as a striking visual centerpiece, the one-minute sequence draws a direct line from Charles and Ray Eames’ legendary 1977 short film Powers of Ten, translating the abstract concept of scale into a modern journey through connectivity, infrastructure, and digital architecture.

When telecommunications giant Verizon approached FutureDeluxe to create a brand film for its London hub, the studio was given a unique creative mandate: interpret the physical and digital engineering behind modern network creation not through literal diagrams, but through a series of abstract ideas about scale.

“Verizon trusted us to interpret how they build their networks as a series of abstract ideas about scale,” explained director Marcus Chaloner. “Our response was to explore how modern networks demonstrate biomimicry from the micro to the kiloscale.”

The resulting piece is a fast-moving, continuous visual narrative that takes the viewer on an ambitious journey. The sequence begins deep within the microscopic realm of the human body, moves past futuristic interpretations of organic cellular and biological infrastructure, and eventually zooms out to reveal a vast landscape of towering computational monoliths and flowing streams of data.

Achieving this expansive narrative within a tight sixty-second window required a massive technical effort from the studio’s 3D artists. The final film was rendered in crisp 4K resolution at 60 frames per second—a specification that posed significant technical hurdles given the heavy reliance on complex, refractive materials throughout the digital scenes. Translucent spheres, glowing light filaments, and crystalline geometric structures all interact with light in ways that demand immense computational power to render smoothly without artifacts.

The resulting visual vocabulary relies heavily on translucent, organic forms intermingled with rigid, architectural precision. In several sequences, delicate circular patterns housed within microscopic blue spheres evoke cellular biology, while other frames pull back to showcase sprawling, grid-like city structures and tree-like geometric formations pulsing with glowing orange and white light filaments. This deliberate blurring of the line between organic nature and synthetic machinery underscores the core concept of network biomimicry that Chaloner and his team set out to explore.

Sound design for the project was crafted by Echoic Audio, providing an auditory landscape that matches the shifting scale and dynamic energy of the visual journey, from intimate internal whispers to the humming resonance of massive data infrastructure.
