DixonBaxi and Zelig Sound Partner with the Art Directors Club for a Joyfully Anarchic 106th Annual Awards Campaign

The Art Directors Club (ADC), recognized globally as the planet’s longest continuously running creative awards program, is refusing to act its age. For its landmark 106th edition, the prestigious institution has partnered with the London-based motion design studio DixonBaxi to launch a vibrant, rule-breaking campaign that redefines how creative achievement is visually communicated.

Spanning more than a century of celebrating ground-breaking talent, the ADC has built its reputation on recognizing work that fundamentally moves creative disciplines forward. At the heart of this legacy is its iconic Cube, an enduring symbol of uncompromising standards. The Cube has long been awarded to exceptional achievements across an expansive spectrum of fields, including traditional design, advertising, film, photography, illustration, and typography, alongside rapidly evolving spaces like gaming, artificial intelligence, and other emerging creative disciplines.

However, rather than treating the Cube as a static, untouchable monument to past achievements, DixonBaxi chose to transform it into the dynamic epicenter from which everything else erupts. In the newly revealed campaign films and digital assets, the familiar geometric form is stretched, fractured, multiplied, and playfully misbehaves. Colors clash with deliberate intensity, bold ideas fire off in unpredictable directions, and typography flips effortlessly from delicate refinement to a wild, feral energy. The visual elements constantly pull apart before snapping back into new, tense configurations.

According to the creative team at DixonBaxi, the overarching goal was to avoid complacency and mirror the true nature of modern artistic exploration. "The result is restless, elastic and alive, a visceral expression of ADC’s search for what’s next," the studio shared in a statement regarding the conceptual approach behind the project.

Rather than serving as a conventional promotional tool, the campaign reframes the Cube and the awards it represents. It turns a traditional symbol of elite achievement into an open invitation for creators to discover the unusual and the extraordinary. It stands as a visual manifesto expressing the raw instinct, necessary friction, and pure exhilaration of creativity itself. Furthermore, the initiative explicitly champions the industry pioneers, the creative misfits, and the restless minds that consistently refuse to settle for the status quo or what already exists.

The resulting visual language is built entirely around the messy, authentic reality of the creative process. It embraces experimentation and raw instinct, the constant interplay between friction and flow, the inevitable wrong turns that lead to unexpected breakthroughs, the sudden rush of discovery, and the coexistence of quiet reflection and unruly expression. Above all, it embodies a steadfast refusal to sit still in an ever-accelerating cultural landscape.

To bring this multifaceted visual world to life across screens, DixonBaxi partnered with audio specialists Zelig Sound to develop a bespoke sonic identity. The resulting sound design introduces an essential secondary dimension to the campaign’s search for innovation, expertly capturing its underlying nerve, heat, rhythmic flow, and acoustic friction.

The campaign materials showcase a striking juxtaposition of elements. Digital graphics feature sharp, metallic forms overlapping bold, contrasting text, such as pairings of "Twisted Delicacy" and "Mercy Full" against vibrant backdrops of bright greens and hot pinks arranged in directional, arrow-heavy compositions. Vintage-style illustrations are playfully fractured and obscured by large geometric blocks of red and magenta, carrying evocative phrases like "shaken Feral Pri" that embody the disruptive design language signature to recent ADC cycles. Other frames utilize bold typography, such as oversized green lettering reading "Banger" overlaid with stylized, upward-pointing three-dimensional arrows, all anchored by the classic gold square emblem featuring the iconic AD monogram.
