KFC and Marvel Studios Team Up for an Epic Post-Apocalyptic Campaign Centered Around Avengers: Doomsday

NEW YORK — In what is being hailed as one of the most ambitious and expansive brand partnerships of the decade, fast-food giant KFC has joined forces with Marvel Studios to promote the highly anticipated blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday. Developed in collaboration with creative agency Mother, the campaign brings a uniquely light-hearted, apocalyptic twist to the fast-food landscape, anchored by a cinematic commercial directed by Tom Noakes and brought to life visually by London-based post-production and VFX powerhouse Black Kite.

The partnership, which officially rolled out its promotional efforts, aligns the global fried chicken brand with one of the biggest cinematic universes in entertainment history. Rather than relying on traditional promotional tie-ins, the campaign dives straight into the lore of Marvel’s iconic antagonists, centering heavily on the formidable presence of Doctor Doom and a tongue-in-cheek fictional competitor known as "Doom Burger."

Christophe Poirier, Chief Concept Officer at KFC, emphasized the scale and cultural ambition driving the collaboration, noting that the initiative goes far beyond a standard promotional menu.

"This is KFC’s most expansive joint venture to date," Poirier stated. "We’re not just teaming up with the most anticipated movie of the decade. We’re leaning into its biggest, baddest character, and delivering a menu worthy of the moment. This isn’t just about chicken, it’s about putting KFC at the heart of a global cultural phenomenon in the most epic way we could."

Bringing the Apocalypse to the Screen

To translate this high-stakes partnership into a compelling visual narrative, KFC turned to director Tom Noakes of Business Club, alongside a top-tier production crew and the visual effects artists at Black Kite. The resulting commercial transports viewers into a weirdly light-hearted post-apocalyptic cityscape, where the grand-scale destruction typical of a Marvel Cinematic Universe event collides with everyday fast-food rivalry.

The spot’s meticulously crafted fictional setting features iconic visual beats of urban chaos: a vintage-style burger mascot drive-thru station standing abandoned on a ruined city street with a lone pigeon perched atop its head; massive structural destruction, including a collapsed bridge with a semi-truck teetering dangerously on the edge; and chaotic urban debris, such as yellow delivery scooters smashed against the brick storefront of "Lucky Dogs Pizza" as part of a comedic Doom Burger delivery mishap. In another striking sequence, a giant blue rocket crashes directly through the roof of a Doom Burger restaurant, demolishing its interior and knocking over a competing chicken mascot statue.

Amidst the devastation stands a solitary, untouched KFC restaurant, operating normally in the center of the ruined Doom Burger city, with a single car idling patiently in the drive-thru lane. Overseeing the desolate landscape from a distance is Doctor Doom himself, surveying a world transformed by chaos.

The ambitious visual language of the commercial required seamless coordination between live-action cinematography and complex visual effects. Director of Photography Aaron McLisky captured the grand, cinematic framing on location, working alongside production service provider B2Y and production designer Dan Betteridge to construct the detailed post-apocalyptic environments.

Behind the scenes, the post-production pipeline was driven by Black Kite under the guidance of VFX Supervisor Adam Crocker and CG Supervisor Aurelien Lemonnier, with Tamara Mennell serving as executive producer. The kinetic pacing and comedic timing of the narrative were shaped in the editing suite by Peter Sciberras at Trim Editing London, with production support from Tatyana Alexandra.

Audio and musical elements further amplify the cinematic scale of the commercial. Sound designer Ned Sisson of King Lear crafted the immersive audio landscape, blending epic cinematic destruction cues with subtle comedic soundscapes, while Anthony Moll and the team at Pitch & Sync supervised the music curation to tie the sweeping visual narrative together.

As the campaign rolls out across global markets, the collaboration between KFC, Marvel Studios, Mother, and the broader creative team sets a new benchmark for how major consumer brands can integrate themselves into the cultural conversation surrounding blockbuster cinema.
