Benjamin Moore Unveils Webster Green (HC-130) as its Color of the Year 2027

While green has become a familiar and expected fixture in the annual color forecasting cycle, paint industry giant Benjamin Moore is looking beyond the short-lived constraints of the latest micro-trends for its 2027 selection. Webster Green (HC-130), the brand’s newly announced Color of the Year, draws heavily upon the enduring, timeless appeal of a classic, mid-tone green. In doing so, it offers a versatile shade that feels equally at home anchoring historic interiors as it does defining contemporary, forward-looking architectural spaces.

The iconic paint manufacturer’s choice reflects a broader, rapidly growing consumer and designer interest in colors that possess genuine staying power. Rather than chasing fleeting design aesthetics, Webster Green introduces a muted, slightly gray quality that successfully softens its inherent richness without ever diminishing its striking visual presence. It is a shade substantial enough to envelop an entire room—creating an immersive, cocoon-like atmosphere—yet restrained enough to work harmoniously alongside intricate architectural details, raw natural materials, and a wide array of complementary accent colors.

“For 2027, our focus centered on the green color family,” explains Andrea Magno, Vice President of brand, color, and integrated marketing at Benjamin Moore. When the company’s color experts and trend forecasters looked across the past, present, and future trajectories of global color trends, variations on green consistently demonstrated a remarkable degree of staying power, proving that the hue is far more than a passing fad.

Magno describes Webster Green as a sophisticated color that delicately balances a sense of comfortable familiarity with an exciting air of possibility. Its composed, grounded nature feels both firmly rooted in traditional design heritage and resolutely forward-looking, all while enhancing spaces that feel distinctive, collected over time, and continually fresh and new.

This adaptability is vividly demonstrated across various design applications. In one traditional setting, Webster Green completely envelops a classic library, neatly unifying its built-in floor-to-ceiling shelving, rich paneled walls, and the substantial brick surround of its fireplace. Elsewhere within the brand’s conceptual showcases, the exact same shade brings a significantly more contemporary sensibility to a cozy bedroom, where it is strikingly paired with crisp white architectural trim and a contrasting pale blue ceiling. The color’s inherent versatility allows it to move comfortably and seamlessly between wildly different design schools, bridging the gap between traditional craftsmanship and modern interior minimalism. Furthermore, when applied to an exterior setting, such as a front door set against a classic red brick wall, it provides a welcoming, grounded threshold that connects the interior of the home with the surrounding landscape.

Webster Green serves as the undeniable anchor for Benjamin Moore’s broader Color Trends 2027 palette, a carefully curated collection of eight distinct hues hand-selected from the company’s extensive archive of more than 3,500 colors. The seven accompanying shades expand the narrative of the palette, offering designers and homeowners a rich toolkit for spatial storytelling.

These supporting shades include White Down, a soft and comforting off-white; Nelson Blue, a pale, watery blue reminiscent of early morning skies; and Shakespeare Tan, a warm, golden neutral that brings organic warmth to any room. On the more expressive side, Wild Aster introduces a muted pink infused with subtle gray undertones, while Antique Copper brings a much warmer, reddish-brown note that nods to industrial and vintage materials.

Rounding out the deeper, more moody end of the palette are Durango, a complex dark neutral featuring prominent olive undertones, and Townsend Harbor Brown, a sophisticated burgundy that leans heavily toward a rich, earthy brown. Together, this cohesive group of eight colors offers endless opportunities for both subtle, tonal combinations and more dramatic, expressive contrasts, allowing spaces to evolve naturally over time.

To further contextualize the palette and deepen its narrative roots, Benjamin Moore commissioned illustrator Tanu Vasu to create a series of thoughtful, hand-drawn illustrations. These artworks explore the rich sources of inspiration behind the 2027 collection, ultimately reinforcing its deep connection to historical design precedents and deeply personal spatial expression.

With the selection of Webster Green as its defining Color of the Year for 2027, Benjamin Moore makes a compelling and timely case for longevity in design, demonstrating that a color does not necessarily have to be entirely new to feel profoundly relevant in modern life.
