As the calendar turns to September, digital creatives across the globe are marking the change of seasons with a fresh array of artwork. Smashing Magazine has officially released its latest monthly desktop wallpaper collection, offering computer users an opportunity to revamp their digital workspaces. Whether users are stubbornly clinging to the final rays of summer sunshine or eagerly looking forward to crisp autumn days, the new curation provides a rich variety of colorful, high-resolution designs suitable for a wide range of devices.

For more than 15 years, Smashing Magazine’s monthly wallpaper series has functioned as a dedicated creative playground for designers, illustrators, and visual artists from diverse background and skill levels. Unlike traditional professional assignments, the series removes client briefs, stakeholder feedback, and corporate constraints. Designers are granted complete creative autonomy to experiment with new techniques, explore personal concepts, and express their individual artistic styles without commercial pressures. Over the past decade and a half, thousands of creators worldwide have contributed to this ongoing project, making each monthly showcase a reflection of global design talent.

The September collection remains true to its core ethos: created by the community, for the community. Every wallpaper featured in the roundup is made available free of charge across numerous screen resolutions, catering to desktop monitors, laptops, and mobile screens alike. The initiative relies entirely on voluntary contributions, highlighting the strong spirit of collaboration within the international design community. Creators who wish to share their work in future installments are encouraged to participate, with submissions for the upcoming October edition open through the end of the month.

Below is a closer look at the featured designs, artistic concepts, and creative talent showcased in this month’s collection.

Welcome Autumn
Designed by PopArt Studio from Serbia, "Welcome Autumn" captures the subtle visual shift that occurs when fall arrives in Novi Sad. The illustration features a rich palette of amber, rust, and deep burgundy, forming a natural archway of woodland canopy that frames the digital screen. According to the designers, the piece aims to evoke the cozy, enveloping sentiment of the changing season as fallen leaves begin to blanket local city streets, inviting a calmer and slower daily rhythm.

September On Repeat
Spanish designer Ricardo Gimenes returns to the monthly series with "September On Repeat." Known for his distinct vector styling and imaginative compositions, Gimenes offers a visual meditation on the cyclical nature of time and the routine transitions that accompany the onset of September.

A Stream Of Consciousness
In a second submission for this month’s showcase, Ricardo Gimenes presents "A Stream Of Consciousness." The abstract illustration delves into fluid thought processes, utilizing dynamic shapes and balanced color harmonies to create a captivating desktop backdrop.

Autumn Rains
Addressing the gloomy rainy days that frequently characterize the fall season, Serbia-based PopArt Studio seeks to reframe the narrative with "Autumn Rains." The design team notes that rain should not be viewed negatively, provided one is equipped with a comfortable raincoat and a sturdy umbrella. The wallpaper welcomes the incoming wet weather with a warm, uplifting perspective designed to counter autumnal blues.

Funny Cats
Indian design outfit UrbanUI pays tribute to beloved domestic companions with "Funny Cats." Celebrating feline affection, cleanliness, and playful charm, the design emphasizes how pets serve as an enduring source of warmth, entertainment, and lighthearted comfort during daily work routines.

Terrazzo
Belgian creative Melissa Bogemans offers a contemporary abstract piece titled "Terrazzo." Drawing inspiration from classic composite material patterns, Bogemans crafted a vibrant, textured wallpaper intended to brighten up user screens and add a touch of modern interior aesthetic to the digital desk during the summer-to-autumn bridge.

Summer Ending
Hailing from Belgrade, Serbia, illustrator Ana Masnikosa reflects on nature’s quiet retreat in "Summer Ending." The artwork illustrates woodland creatures withdrawing into cozy hiding spots to seek internal warmth while harboring memories of sun-soaked adventures beneath colorful late-summer skies.

Cacti Everywhere
Hungarian designer Lívia Lénárt brings humor and resilience to the display with "Cacti Everywhere." The piece highlights the unfazed nature of desert flora, pointing out that while human calendar seasons shift constantly between summer heat and autumn chill, sturdy cacti remain steadfast and indifferent to the changing climate.

Flower Soul
Created by Indian designer Krishnankutty, "Flower Soul" is designed as a mindfulness reminder for busy digital professionals. Combining illustrations of blooming flowers and fluttering butterflies, the piece encourages viewers to take short breaks, relieve work-related stress, and connect with the natural rhythms of the surrounding environment.

Stay Or Leave?
Adding another entry to the collection, Ricardo Gimenes delivers "Stay Or Leave?", an illustrative exploration of seasonal crossroads and the contemplative decisions that arrive with the onset of autumn.

Listen Closer… The Mushrooms Are Growing
Canadian designer Igor Izhik presents "Listen Closer… The Mushrooms Are Growing," a playful commentary on annual September habits. Izhik contrasts the back-to-school season for children with the seasonal pastime of mushroom foraging enjoyed by adults across North America and Europe.

Who
Ricardo Gimenes provides a minimalist vector design titled "Who," incorporating subtle visual humor and striking graphical forms tailored for clean desktop setups.

Hungry
Belgian designer Elise Vanoorbeek contributes "Hungry," an expressive visual piece showcasing detailed character design and narrative illustration.

Maryland Pride
Designed by The Hannon Group from Washington, D.C., "Maryland Pride" honors the cultural and economic heritage of the blue crab in the Chesapeake Bay region. As summer ends, so does the peak of Maryland’s blue crab season. The designers highlight that the crustacean has been a regional culinary staple since the 1700s and forms the state’s most valuable commercial fishery, contributing millions of dollars annually to the local economy. In recognition of its cultural significance, the blue crab was officially designated Maryland’s State Crustacean in 1989.

Lucha Libre
Mexican illustrator Maria Keller marks her country’s national heritage with "Lucha Libre." Timed alongside Mexico’s Independence Day celebrations in September, Keller chose to illustrate the iconic masked professional wrestling tradition, celebrating one of the most recognizable symbols of Mexican pop culture.

A Cozy Evening
Dutch creative shop Creative Pinky presents "A Cozy Evening," an atmospheric illustration centered around warm campfire gatherings amidst shifting autumn leaves. The design encourages viewers to embrace seasonal transformations, offering imagery evocative of crisp outdoor nights, starry skies, and gentle environmental evolution.

Go Bananas
Adding high-energy pop art to the collection, Ricardo Gimenes presents "Go Bananas," featuring bold graphic shapes and whimsical design elements.

Summer Is Leaving
Indian studio Bootstrap Dashboards reflects on the quiet departure of warm weather in "Summer Is Leaving." The artwork acts as a gentle reminder to enjoy the remaining late-summer days before colder weather takes firm hold.

Still In Vacation Mood
Romanian artist Miruna Sfia draws upon personal travel memories for "Still In Vacation Mood." The illustration captures a coastal town along France’s Atlantic shore, channeling holiday nostalgia for those who remain reluctant to return to full autumn work routines.

Rainy Flowers
Bulgarian artist Teodora Vasileva shares "Rainy Flowers," combining delicate botanical illustration with soft watercolor textures designed to complement overcast autumn afternoons.

Colors Of September
Ukrainian designer Juliagav celebrates the unique aesthetic of early fall in "Colors Of September," emphasizing the rich sensory palette and distinct aromas associated with the month.

The studio notes that vital global ecosystems—from the Amazon rainforest to the Siberian wilderness—face ongoing destruction, urging screen users to adopt greater harmony with the natural world.

Early Autumn
German designer Kat Gluszek offers a smooth visual bridge between seasons in "Early Autumn." While featuring classic autumn imagery such as trees and falling foliage, Gluszek intentionally retained vibrant, bright summer hues to help users transition gradually into fall without sudden stylistic shifts.

Bear Time
Serbian illustrator Bojana Stojanovic introduces a charming character concept in "Bear Time," framing wildlife motifs with soft digital brushwork.
