Atelier Versace to Make Triumphant Return to Paris Couture Week with Pieter Mulier’s Debut

Paris Couture Week in January is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated events on the global fashion calendar in recent years, headlined by the grand return of Atelier Versace. The upcoming showcase will mark the highly awaited debut collection of the Italian fashion house’s new creative officer, Pieter Mulier, signaling a major new chapter for the legendary luxury label.

The iconic Italian fashion house officially confirmed the major showing in a short statement shared exclusively with Women’s Wear Daily (WWD). In the statement, the brand noted that the exact date and venue for the landmark presentation “will be announced in due course.”

Paris Couture Week is officially scheduled to take place from January 25 to 28 in the French capital, drawing international buyers, celebrities, critics, and fashion enthusiasts from around the globe. For Atelier Versace, the return to the official runway is particularly momentous. The house last staged a dedicated, physical couture runway show in July 2016. In the years following that landmark presentation, Versace maintained its prestigious couture presence primarily behind the scenes through private client orders and high-profile red carpet moments, dressing some of the world’s most recognizable stars for major global events.

Pieter Mulier officially assumed his role as creative officer at Versace on July 1, stepping into the position with a wealth of industry experience and a clear vision for the house’s future. Although his official runway debut is still months away, Mulier has already offered a tantalizing glimpse of his design direction for Atelier Versace. On August 31, Hollywood icon Nicole Kidman stepped out in the designer’s very first Atelier Versace creation at the Los Angeles premiere of “Practical Magic 2.” Kidman captured global attention on the red carpet, wearing a striking asymmetric black lace gown that immediately set the tone for Mulier’s fresh aesthetic approach to the brand. The look provided critics and fans alike with their first physical evidence of how the designer plans to merge his distinct creative sensibility with Versace’s storied codes of glamour and sensuality.

Mulier’s upcoming couture debut will also serve as the first highly visible commercial and artistic signal of the brand’s new strategic direction. The house was acquired last year by the Prada Group, a monumental corporate development that instantly united two titans of Italian luxury. At the time of the acquisition, Patrizio Bertelli, the group’s chairman and executive director, emphasized the profound synergy between the companies. Bertelli noted that Prada Group and Versace shared “a strong commitment to creativity, craftsmanship, and heritage,” while outlining the primary corporate and creative objective: “to continue Versace’s legacy celebrating and reinterpreting its bold and timeless aesthetic.”

The integration process within the broader luxury conglomerate has been moving forward at a steady and deliberate pace. Providing insight into the transition last week while reporting the group’s nine-month financial figures, Prada Group Chief Executive Officer Andrea Guerra offered an optimistic update on the luxury house’s corporate evolution. Guerra noted that Versace’s ongoing integration was heading “in the proper direction.” He added that leadership is already able to evaluate the physical results of the brand’s new leadership.

“We begin to see part of what the collections would look like and so far we’re all very happy,” Guerra stated regarding the progress of the transition. He emphasized that the leadership team has moved well beyond conceptual discussions, noting, “We’re not just looking and talking about ideas, but we’re looking at products at this stage and the team is ready.”

As January approaches, anticipation continues to build across the fashion industry regarding how Mulier will interpret the high-octane codes established by Gianni and Donatella Versace through the lens of modern atelier craftsmanship. With the backing of the Prada Group, a newly invigorated creative team, and a high-profile red carpet debut already under his belt, Mulier’s upcoming presentation during Paris Couture Week promises to be a defining moment for the house of Versace as it steps boldly into its next era.
