Saks Fifth Avenue is stepping into the holiday season with a heavy dose of "Main Character Energy," bringing a playful, dynamic spirit to its historic Manhattan flagship and its digital platforms alike.
The high-profile campaign, which officially launched on Tuesday, centers around a group of stylish friends navigating the iconic department store for holiday gifts, all while escaping the typical frantic hustle and bustle associated with seasonal shopping. According to the retailer, each vignette is designed to be lighthearted and captures both the genuine delight of sharing time-honored holiday traditions with loved ones and the intrinsic spirit of seasonal discovery.
The rollout serves as the opening salvo for what is traditionally the most critical quarter for the retail sector. However, for Saks and its corporate sibling brands, the stakes this season are notably higher.
The 2026 holiday campaign arrives at a pivotal juncture for the iconic luxury retailer. Earlier this year in June, Saks—alongside sister brands Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman—successfully emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring under new ownership and management. The reorganization left the companies operating with a significantly healthier balance sheet and a streamlined physical footprint, reducing the core Saks store count from 33 locations down to 15.
Consequently, the Manhattan flagship at 611 Fifth Avenue—situated between 49th and 50th Streets—now shoulders a much larger percentage of the brand’s overall business and visibility. This holiday season will serve as a major litmus test for customer perception, giving the retailer a prime opportunity to prove that it is officially back on track, highly competitive, and fully attuned to an upscale consumer base with an enduring appetite for luxury.
"Saks Fifth Avenue brings the magic of the holidays to life through extraordinary luxury offerings, personalized service and a spirit of joy and discovery that delights our customers," said Darcy Penick, president and chief commercial officer of the Exemplar Luxury Group (ELG), the parent entity managing Saks, Neiman Marcus, and Bergdorf Goodman, in a statement. "With their distinctive tastes and desires at the heart of our approach, we’ve thoughtfully curated our holiday assortment and experiences to inspire every celebration."

To bring the vision to life, the "Main Character Energy" campaign was directed and shot by acclaimed photographer Nadine Ijewere. The visual narrative features a diverse, fashion-forward cast of creative personalities, including Ruby Lyn, Stella Jones, Solange Smith, Luna Yohannan, Divine Mugisha, and George McNally. The group is captured moving fluidly through the various floors of the landmark store, unearthing unexpected gifts for friends and family while occasionally treating themselves. The campaign serves to highlight how different levels of the flagship offer unique, unforeseen retail experiences.
"With Main Character Energy, we wanted to capture the joy and magic of the holidays—the unexpected discoveries, moments of delight and sense of possibility that make this time of year so special," noted Cheryl Han, ELG’s chief marketing and digital officer. "Bringing that spirit to life across Saks, from our Fifth Avenue flagship to saks.com, gives us an opportunity to make holiday shopping feel inspiring, playful and full of surprise, inviting our customers to celebrate, find something extraordinary and create memorable moments of their own."
A central pillar of the Saks holiday tradition is its grand window displays and outdoor light show, which annually draw massive, shoulder-to-shoulder crowds that temporarily block traffic on Fifth Avenue. This year, the spectacular unveiling is scheduled for November 23. The flagship event is officially presented by Bread Financial, which serves as the official payment sponsor for Saks’ 2026 holiday season and will extend the celebrations through localized events at select regional stores.
Passersby and shoppers taking in the historic facade will find six of the flagship’s primary windows dedicated to an animated holiday journey winding through New York City. Additional gallery windows will blend elements from the campaign’s visual motifs with curated displays of cutting-edge seasonal fashion. The return of the full-scale presentation marks a continued stabilization for the brand; in 2024, the retailer was forced to cancel the traditional light show as part of aggressive cost-cutting measures prior to its financial restructuring, before bringing the beloved spectacle back last year.
Inside the flagship, the retail environment has been transformed to match the external pageantry. Saks has established an in-store holiday market featuring a curated assortment of festive decor, unique gifts, gourmet epicurean goods, intricate snow globes, and artisan items sourced from around the globe. Whimsical touches abound throughout the retail floor, including life-size Santa installations and animated dancing penguins designed to delight shoppers of all ages.
Complementing the physical experience, the Saks Fifth Avenue Holiday Gift Guide is now live, offering comprehensive curations that span party outfits for women, sophisticated holiday dressing for men, premium beauty products, and targeted gift categories such as curated items priced under $200.
Beyond the commercial and aesthetic displays, the retailer is maintaining its philanthropic commitments. The Saks Fifth Avenue 2026 holiday campaign will actively support the Make-A-Wish foundation through dedicated fundraising initiatives integrated throughout the holiday season.
