Monotype’s executive roster combines decades of expertise across software-as-a-service (SaaS) operations, corporate finance, intellectual property law, product development, go-to-market strategy, and human capital management. Together, they form a cohesive unit dedicated to fulfilling the company’s mission: amplifying brands through the power of type and technology.
Executive Leadership at the Helm
Leading the global organization as Chief Executive Officer is Ninan Chacko. In his role overseeing Monotype’s expansive operations, Chacko partners with some of the world’s most recognizable brands to transform how digital fonts are adopted and utilized across industries. Before bringing his visionary leadership to Monotype, Chacko served as a Senior Advisor to McKinsey and held the role of Chief Executive Officer at Travel Leaders Group, a prominent retail, corporate, and entertainment travel enterprise in North America and the UK generating over $20 billion in sales with more than 4,000 employees.

Prior to his tenure at Travel Leaders Group, Chacko served as the Chief Executive Officer of PR Newswire, guiding the organization through a period of significant organic growth driven by product innovation and international expansion. His corporate background also includes serving as Chief Commercial Officer for Worldspan, a global travel information, e-commerce, and technology service provider. Notably, he was a founding member of the buyout consortium management team that acquired Worldspan from major legacy airlines including Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines, and American Airlines, remaining in his executive capacity until the company was successfully sold to Travelport. Chacko holds a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Kansas, and has completed advanced executive programs at Harvard Business School and the London Business School.
Supporting Monotype’s technical and operational ambitions is Chief Operating Officer James Potter. Bringing more than 20 years of experience as a commercially focused operator, Potter oversees a broad portfolio of strategic functions, including Strategy and Corporate Development, Sales Operations, Go-to-Market Enablement, Customer Success, Creative Services, the Foundry division, and the Monotype Printer business. His career is defined by a distinct ability to advise large, complex Fortune 500 corporations on growth strategy and operational transformation, alongside hands-on execution and scaling initiatives within mid-sized organizations.

Before joining Monotype, Potter served as President of Forpak Automation and as Chief Commercial Officer at Dunes Point Capital, a mid-market private equity firm. His foundational experience includes nine years in growth strategy and innovation consulting, as well as an early career milestone in General Electric’s Financial Management Program. He also lends his governance expertise to the board of Strata Worldwide, a leading mining technology company.
Driving Product Innovation and Typography Excellence
As the global demand for dynamic digital content accelerates, Monotype’s product and typography divisions play a critical role in shaping the industry. Shoeb Ansari serves as Chief Product Officer, overseeing both the Product Management and Engineering teams. In this capacity, Ansari focuses on sharpening Monotype’s technical and strategic capabilities while accelerating project initiatives across the enterprise.

An international leader with over 25 years of experience leading product and technology initiatives throughout North America, Ansari has built a reputation for establishing high-quality, high-performance SaaS organizations. His leadership facilitates faster product delivery, market expansion, and the cultivation of lasting customer relationships designed to create measurable value through technological advancement.
Complementing the technical roadmap is the artistic and industry-focused leadership of Mike Matteo, Monotype’s Chief Typography Officer. Matteo directs the strategic vision for typography innovation, forging essential partnerships with top-tier foundries and delivering cutting-edge type solutions that empower global brands and creative agencies. With more than 25 years of executive experience spanning technology, typography, and business development, Matteo previously managed international sales teams and strategic platforms as Monotype’s Senior Vice President of Global Channels, Platforms, Partners, and Printers.

Matteo’s extensive background includes serving as Chief Information Officer at CenterLight Health System, where he spearheaded a comprehensive technology transformation. He also co-founded LeadDog Digital, guiding a boutique agency’s evolution into a multi-million-dollar interactive solutions and SaaS company that achieved exponential revenue growth, completed multiple acquisitions, merged with Bridgeline Software, and successfully completed a public offering. He holds degrees in Computer Science and Management Science from the State University of New York at Oswego, alongside an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Expanding Market Reach and Customer Engagement
Monotype’s market presence and revenue operations are guided by leaders who bridge customer insight with strategic growth. Thanh Hoang serves as Chief Revenue Officer, managing the company’s revenue-generating activities and ensuring the close alignment of sales, marketing, and customer success teams.

Since joining Monotype in 2013, Hoang has held multiple senior-level leadership roles within go-to-market operations, most recently serving as Senior Vice President of Global Key Accounts and Americas Managing Director. With more than two decades of go-to-market experience—including roles across public and private equity-owned technology companies—Hoang leverages his deep understanding of customer relationships and a commitment to market excellence to drive global growth.
Amplifying the company’s voice and go-to-market narrative is Karen Brewer, Chief Marketing Officer. Leading the marketing function, Brewer champions Monotype’s brand while driving strategic initiatives that build awareness and demand for its evolving technological capabilities. A four-time CMO with over 25 years of experience building and scaling growth at critical inflection points, Brewer has led marketing organizations ranging from early-stage startups to established global leaders like Adobe and Autodesk. Her expertise centers on category narrative, product marketing, and go-to-market strategy, successfully connecting brand identity with demand generation across the customer journey.

Corporate Strategy, Financial Stewardship, and Legal Operations
To sustain long-term value creation and operational resilience, Monotype relies on a disciplined framework of corporate strategy, legal oversight, and financial management. Will Spector serves as Chief Strategy and Development Officer, taking responsibility for formulating and implementing Monotype’s global strategy while overseeing all aspects of mergers and acquisitions. Spector leads teams focused on Corporate Strategy, Business Operations, Program Management, Global Data, and M&A, while driving company-wide efficiency initiatives and programs centered on the Voice of the Customer. Prior to Monotype, Spector worked as an investor with private equity firm HGGC and as an advisor with McKinsey & Company, collaborating closely with executive teams and boards across startups and Fortune 500 conglomerates. He is a graduate of Brown University.
Financial operations are directed by Jaco Uys, Chief Financial Officer, who brings more than 20 years of global finance and operational leadership experience across diverse industries. Before joining Monotype in 2020, Uys served as CFO for private equity-backed enterprises, including The Nature’s Bounty Company, where he managed over $2 billion in profit and loss responsibility as CFO for Consumer Packaged Goods in the Americas. His foundational corporate background includes extended tenures at Deloitte, IBM, and United Technologies. As a Certified Public Accountant with an MBA from Columbia University, Uys acts as a strategic business partner to executive leadership, private equity investors, and lenders in optimizing returns and guiding long-term value creation.

Ensuring the company’s global operations remain anchored in robust legal frameworks is General Counsel Dr. Jan Kaestner. Kaestner originally joined Monotype in 2008 as a specialist in intellectual property, cartel law, and unfair commercial practices following the company’s acquisition of the renowned German foundry Linotype. Bringing a rare perspective as an in-house counsel with prior experience licensing font software such as Optima, Kaestner worked alongside U.S. legal counsel to establish Monotype’s European legal team in Germany. Over the years, he assumed broader operational and strategic responsibilities, stepping into the role of General Counsel in 2021. Prior to his tenure at Monotype, Kaestner served from 2000 to 2007 as in-house counsel and management board member for Wettbewerbszentrale e.V., a German non-profit organization dedicated to market self-regulation, fair competition, and intellectual property compliance.
Through the combined expertise of these leaders, Monotype continues to support creative professionals, foster collaboration across global markets, and advance the art and technology of typography worldwide.
