Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy to Depart at Warner Bros. Following Paramount Close

The blockbuster $110 billion pact, which reshapes the landscape of major Hollywood media conglomerates, is widely expected to be finalized on October 6. As the dust settles on one of the largest corporate consolidations in entertainment history, major structural shifts are rapidly taking shape across both legacy lots. Paramount film heads Dana Goldberg and Greenstein are slated to oversee both combined movie studios moving forward. Under the provisions of the newly minted deal, each studio is projected to release approximately 30 films annually, balancing a massive slate of commercial tentpoles and prestigious auteur-driven projects. At present, it remains unclear whether De Luca and Abdy will stay on the lot for a temporary transitionary period to help hand over the reins, or if their departure will take effect immediately upon the closing bell of the merger.

The high-profile news arrives almost exactly one year to the date after Warner Bros. Discovery CEO and president David Zaslav proudly announced that De Luca and Abdy’s leadership contracts were being formally renewed at the studio. That vote of confidence from top corporate leadership followed a formidable run of box office triumphs and critical accolades. Among their standout achievements were Ryan Coogler’s culturally resonant feature "Sinners," the massive global phenomenon "A Minecraft Movie," and the gripping thriller "Weapons."

Furthermore, under their collaborative leadership, Warner Bros. recently achieved a historic milestone by tying the all-time studio record with 11 Academy Awards from an industry-leading 30 nominations. That golden run was crowned by a coveted Best Picture victory for Paul Thomas Anderson’s critically acclaimed drama "One Battle After Another." Despite this glittering track record of commercial hits and awards-season glory, the shifting tides of corporate ownership often spell sweeping overhauls for incumbent creative executives.

As Ellison prepares to officially steer the combined media giant, he has largely kept his new overarching leadership structure close to the vest, rolling out changes deliberately while industry observers parse every executive appointment. The transition has already seen notable exits, including Cindy Holland stepping down from her role as head of streaming for Paramount+. However, the company has yet to officially confirm whether Casey Bloys will ascend to the top streaming job within the newly combined corporate structure, though his leadership of HBO and Max remains a focal point of speculation. On the operational front, it has been confirmed that Ellison tapped former Mattel CEO Ynon Kriez to serve as co-CEO, stepping in to oversee the day-to-day business operations and manage the complex integration of the newly merged entities.

News of De Luca and Abdy’s impending exit was first broken by Puck, highlighting the rapid pace of behind-the-scenes maneuvering as the October closing date approaches. Representatives for Paramount and Warner Bros. did not immediately return requests for comment regarding the impending executive changes. As October 6 rapidly approaches, Hollywood watches closely to see how the new leadership regime will shape the future output of one of the industry’s most storied motion picture studios.
