Air, Breath, and Quiet Luxury: Tendril Introduces Alo’s New Handbags in Striking CG Spots

Los Angeles-based premium athletic apparel and lifestyle retailer Alo Yoga has officially expanded its product catalogue to include a sophisticated line of handbags. To mark this major brand milestone, the company tapped the acclaimed creative production studio Tendril to craft two meticulously designed computer-generated (CG) spots. Co-directed by Daena Lorne and Pablo Alfieri, the campaign successfully translates Alo’s wellness-centric ethos into the elevated, tactile world of high-end accessories.

The overarching creative brief handed to the Tendril crew was simultaneously straightforward and demanding: produce two short films showcasing four newly designed handbags while striking a delicate balance between precise product accuracy and an atmospheric, elevated expression of the brand. To guide the visual development, the creative team anchored their process around a carefully curated set of keywords: air, breath, yoga, quiet luxury, brass detail, and shadow play.

For Alo Yoga, a brand deeply rooted in mindfulness, movement, and refined modern aesthetics, the central challenge was distinct. The company needed to introduce its debut handbag collection in a way that felt inherently premium and visually captivating, while ensuring the campaign connected naturally to the established lifestyle universe Alo has built around wellness and thoughtful design.

Rather than treating the handbags simply as isolated product objects floating against a neutral background, the directors chose to explore the physical qualities, textures, and raw materials that could physically and metaphorically surround them. Elements such as supple leather, tensile wire, organic crystals, gleaming brass hardware, precise perforation, shifting light, deep shadow, and open air became the fundamental building blocks for the entire visual language of the campaign.

According to the co-directors, one of the most significant hurdles during production was ensuring that the newly introduced handbags remained the absolute heroes of the films without letting the final output devolve into a series of clinical, static product renders. The production needed to establish a cohesive, consistent visual system across both spots while still carving out distinct moments that highlighted the intricate, individual design details of each specific bag.

The creative solution arrived by inverting the typical commercial pipeline: instead of placing the products inside a predetermined environment, the team built the entire surrounding world outward from the products themselves. Every individual material choice, motion transition, physical movement, and lighting cue was purposefully engineered to reveal something authentic about the handbags while simultaneously contributing to the broader, atmospheric visual narrative.

To achieve this level of hyper-realistic integration and fluid control, the films were developed primarily using industry-standard software Cinema 4D and Houdini. This robust digital toolkit granted the production team absolute authority over the physical relationships between the soft leather, rigid hardware, structural wire, crystalline formations, and dynamic light movement. It was crucial that every handbag remained structurally accurate, recognizable, and true to its physical counterpart while existing harmoniously within the same elevated, dreamlike visual realm.

In addition to traditional high-end CG pipelines, artificial intelligence was utilized experimentally during the early developmental stages of the project. Primarily deployed to explore and brainstorm early computer-generated shots, AI allowed the team to rapidly test various conceptual ideas and determine which visual explorations were genuinely worth developing further before committing them to the resource-heavy final CG production cycle.

The resulting campaign successfully bridges the gap between Alo’s athletic origins and the understated elegance of quiet luxury. Through precise direction, rich material exploration, and technical execution, Tendril’s two CG spots position Alo’s debut handbags not just as fashion accessories, but as natural extensions of a mindful, design-forward lifestyle.

The production was brought to life by a multidisciplinary team at Tendril, featuring creative direction by Daena Lorne, co-direction by Pablo Alfieri and Daena Lorne, art direction by Runbo Chen, executive production by Ivelle Jargalyn, and production by Ashita Narang. Design, modeling, animation, lighting, and rendering were executed by Bureau Klaus Alman and Flavio Diniz, with compositing by Corey Larson. The atmospheric soundscape and original music composition were crafted by Niko Hook, rounding out a holistic audiovisual experience for Alo Yoga’s exciting expansion into luxury accessories.
